Building a Robust Sustainability Strategy Through Expert Consulting
IDEX engaged OBATA to help evaluate and refine its sustainability approach and set the foundation for a multi-year strategy. This engagement consisted of ongoing consulting services with a detailed benchmarking of a set of peer companies to gauge how IDEX compared to industry competitors.
Our benchmarking process involved a deep dive into the structure of competitor and peer sustainability reports, examining process, content, selected frameworks (such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP), and overall design. We compared IDEX and a set of identified competitors against more than 100 qualitative and quantitative metrics. OBATA reviewed and compared ratings, frameworks, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures, and impacts, risks, and opportunities (IROs).
The resulting benchmark report conveyed critical information that highlighted best practices and helped to guide the overall direction of the IDEX report. OBATA also conducted a thorough gap analysis across various sustainability frameworks to identify discrepancies between IDEX’s current programs and its corporate sustainability goals and external requirements.

Crafting an Impactful Sustainability Brand Story
IDEX sought a cohesive way to communicate its culture of sustainable best practices, which has always been foundational to its operations. This spirit of efficiency, rooted in dozens of locations around the world, provided the impetus for developing and designing a set of Sustainability Brand Pillars.
To capture insights from IDEX stakeholders, OBATA participated in a workshop outlining key elements and responses from various internal stakeholders. These elements informed the development of a set of guideposts, or pillars, which OBATA helped develop into an overarching Sustainability Brand Statement and visual infographic.
These pillars were written and designed to reflect how sustainability has historically been embedded in IDEX’s culture. The core values of Innovation, People, Planet, and Culture were emphasized by OBATA both in text treatment and graphically to provide impact with purpose.

Transforming the Sustainability Brand Story into a Compelling Sustainability Report
Having developed over 90 CSR, ESG, impact, and sustainability reports, OBATA leveraged our expertise in concepting, copywriting, storytelling, and design to bring IDEX’s compelling sustainability messages to life.
After interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather data and stories demonstrating progress toward sustainability goals, OBATA showcased how IDEX not only talked about sustainability, but also embedded it into daily operations.
Following copywriting for the entire report, OBATA brought the content to life through informative and impactful design. The design incorporated numerous infographics that conveyed the key messaging, data, and progress in visually compelling ways.
Supported by carefully selected photography, sidebar articles, and stories, the designed report was produced as an interactive PDF document in landscape format, with an easy-to-use navigational menu on every page.
From the Sustainability Brand Story to highlights, achievements, and appendices, the report conveyed the company’s progress through professional, well-organized, and thoughtful design.

Dynamic Digital Reporting: The IDEX Sustainability Microsite
OBATA has helped numerous companies share their sustainability report as a digital microsite or interactive website. That’s because we understand that doing so makes their sustainability and ESG data far more visible, structured, and accessible to ratings agencies. This format supports easier scraping, clearer indexing, constant updates, and more reliable verification, often leading to more accurate and enhanced agency scores.
After completing their sustainability report PDF, our in-house website design and development team built an interactive and dynamic microsite. This digital experience presented viewers with the ability to view specific report sections in a familiar web-based platform.
With analytics capabilities integrated into the microsite, IDEX can view specific page visits and track which report content is most popular among viewers. This information can support future report structure and content focus.
The microsite was developed by OBATA for both a desktop and mobile user experience, providing easy accessibility from anywhere on any device.
